The Organization:

The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) is an international feminist organization working to strengthen the voice, impact and influence of women's rights advocates, organizations and movements internationally. 

Overview of the Forum and Events Team:

The AWID International Forum on Women's Rights and Development is both a conference and a call to action. The largest recurring event of its kind, the AWID Forum brings together women's rights leaders and activists from around the world every three years to strategize, network, celebrate, and learn in a highly charged atmosphere that fosters deep discussions and sustained personal and professional growth. The Forum/Events team coordinates every aspect related to the Forum logistics including the call for proposals, registration, travel arrangements and additional social, artistic, cultural events, exhibits and celebrations held during the forum.
The Forum and Events team also provides logistical support to meetings organized by other AWID strategic initiatives. The Forum and Events team has strengthened and consolidated into a very efficient, effective team that enables AWID to convene complex, high quality gatherings both at the regional and international levels. 

Overview of the Position:

The Forum and Events Assistant provides administrative, logistical, informational and communications support to the Forum and Events team. 
Under the supervision of the Forum and Events Manager, the assistant will provide logistical, travel and database support for AWID’s international meetings and conferences including the AWID forum.  
The Event Assistant will work out of the Toronto office and be responsible for assisting on all aspects of event planning. 

Qualifications:

Experience:
Over two years experience:
  • Working in a non-profit organization,
  • providing administrative, logistical support for projects and/or special events
  • working in a multi-cultural team
  • in women's rights and gender equality work / activism
Academic Qualifications:
  • Degree or diploma in a related field
Expertise & Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish
  • Keen attention to detail and quality control
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to manage conflict effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills
  • Ability to multi-task and willing to perform diverse tasks as needed in a timely manner
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Able to absorb new skills and information quickly
  • Strong computer skills, including databases, Microsoft excel, word processing, presentation packages (PowerPoint), internet and email
  • High levels of initiative, creativity, and self-motivation
Assets:
  • Tri/Quad lingual (English, Spanish, French and/or Arabic)
  • Expertise in the use of Filemaker database
  • Courses or certificates in project management and/or special events management
Other Requirements:
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends in weeks and days leading up to AWID events
  • Able to travel internationally (approximately 2-4 weeks per year)
  • A passion for women’s and human rights issues as well as event organizing
  • Committed to the principles and values of feminism, anti-discrimination and anti-racism
