University Health Services (UHS) at Princeton University is a fully accredited (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, or "AAAHC") health care facility. Located in the McCosh Health Center and the Caldwell Field house, UHS provides comprehensive health services to more than 7,500 Princeton undergraduate and graduate students, and specialized services to Princeton University faculty, staff, and employees who experience work-related injuries and illnesses, or who require consultations regarding international and travel medicine.
UHS's mission is to enhance learning and student success by advancing the health and well-being of our diverse University community. This mission is pursued and supports the University's purpose by using current knowledge of health and human development to guide responsive, high quality clinical, prevention, and consultation services.
SHARE's purpose is to lead and support campus efforts to address power-based personal violence. The Office provides emergency response, intervention, and care to student victims/survivors of sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, and stalking. We also work closely with a network of campus and community partners to foster a University environment that is intolerant of abuse, responsive to needs of victims/survivors, and holds perpetrators accountable for their actions. We aim to contribute to a campus culture in which power-based personal violence simply has no place—and our distinctive community of learning is free to flourish.
Position Summary
Reporting to the SHARE Director, the Prevention Coordinator for Men's Initiatives will manage program functions and logistics geared toward the development and implementation of men's programming initiatives, enhancing awareness, challenging gender stereotypes, increasing the community's understanding of power-based personal violence dynamics, and reducing behaviors that lead to both perpetration and victimization. The Coordinator will serve as the prevention specialist focused on mentoring men and engaging men through educational programming, leadership and other methods including the development, delivery and evaluation of workshops and training sessions. The Coordinator also will support the Director's prevention initiatives and assist in the provision of emergency response, as needed.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Training and Education (50%)
  1. Develop and coordinate a violence prevention program that promotes an environment for healthy male social development by challenging belief systems and social constructs that contribute to violence and offering alternative options. Responsible for researching and developing evidence-informed educational programs directed toward high-risk campus-based populations for primary and secondary prevention of power-based personal violence, including sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, and stalking.
  1. Develop voluntary accountability program for students accused of misconduct related to SHARE issues, including researching peer programs, defining parameters and goals of the program, engaging key stakeholders, marketing, and monitoring of program. Provide educational interventions to students as requested.
  1. Recruit, train, coach and/or supervise student peer mentors and/or volunteers who will serve as role models or popular opinion leaders for male students around the role of men in developing healthy relationships.
  1. Collaborate with the SHARE Director and other health promotion and student life staff in the development of educational, outreach, and training materials, through the use of print, electronic, and social media.
Intervention (15%)
  1. Provide crisis response to student victims/survivors by phone and in-person for accompaniment to campus and community service providers, including community hospital for Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) activations, municipal and campus-based law enforcement, medical providers, and campus disciplinary officers.
  1. Serve as a confidential advocate for victims/survivors of power-based personal violence while sharing on-call responsibilities with SHARE Director covering evening and weekend hours throughout the calendar year.
  1. Provide sensitive and timely information to power-based personal violence victims/ survivors about resources and reporting options.
Collaboration (20%)
  1. Lead engagement with culturally and socially diverse student groups, athletes, eating clubs, and fraternity members. Work with relevant student life colleagues to develop organizational linkages and sustainable programming.
  1. Work in partnership with SHARE Director to represent SHARE to students and actively participate in planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive prevention programming, using a team approach.
  2. In collaboration with the SHARE Director, assist with the launch and implementation of a campus-wide primary prevention strategy geared toward proactive bystander intervention, and ensure delivery of a cohesive and comprehensive prevention curriculum for the campus community.
  1. Collaborate on the implementation of recognized and innovative prevention strategies into SHARE activities in response to strategic and local agendas. Integrate these strategies into SHARE activities. Maintain and develop a network of contacts and actively seek out and participate in professional development activities to keep current on best practices and research literature pertinent to the field.
  1. Participate in regular meetings with campus groups and student leaders regarding methods of addressing power-based personal violence.
Evaluation (15%)
  1. Develop evaluation tools to track learning outcomes of educational programs and participate in data tracking and assessment processes for ongoing quality improvement.

  • Possesses knowledge about the risk and protective factors that contribute to power-based personal violence
  • Proven record of implementing evidence-informed primary prevention and prevention programming as it pertains to sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, and stalking
  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills; and is an effective presenter and public speaker
  • Able to use technology (electronic applications and social media) to effectively reach target audiences
  • Has advanced small and large group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrates a talent for collaboration, team-building, and working within a team-based model
  • Is well-organized, composed under pressure, and able to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Able to balance strong commitment to social justice with a capacity to navigate complex organizational systems
  • Is detail-oriented and solution-focused, capable of delivering work products aligned with the guiding principles of SHARE, UHS, and Princeton University
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to attend and complete approximately 85 hours of training to become a New Jersey victim advocate within the first year of employment
  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, women's and gender studies, public health, or related field
  • Minimum of three years' experience in sexual assault/intimate partner violence education, violence prevention strategies or counseling
  • Prior experience with or demonstrated commitment to developing and implementing violence prevention and education programs engaging and mentoring men as bystanders and allies
  • Experience supporting survivors and holding offenders accountable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters (or doctorate) in social work, psychology, women's and gender studies, public health, or related graduate degree
New Jersey LSW, LPC, or Psychologist license in good standing or eligibility for licensure in New Jersey
Experience in higher education setting
Experience with sexual assault offenders and/or batterers intervention programs and volunteer management experience
Knowledge of New Jersey and federal statutes and regulations pertaining to sexual assault, domestic/dating violence, and stalking
Prior training as a county-based confidential sexual assault and domestic violence victim advocate in New Jersey
