Communications Officer - Online And New Media

Organisational Profile:

Founded in 2000, CREA is a feminist human rights organisation based in New Delhi, India. It is one of the few international women's rights organisations based in the global South, led by Southern feminists, which works at the grassroots, national, regional, and international levels. Together with partners from a diverse range of human rights movements and networks, CREA works to advance the rights of women and girls, and the sexual and reproductive freedoms of all people. CREA advocates for positive social change through national and international fora, and provides training and learning opportunities to global activists and leaders through its Institutes.

Key Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Communications Officer—Online and New Media will include:
1. CREA Website
  • Develop, manage and update the content of the CREA website
  • Collate information and multimedia resources for the website.
  • Develop, create, and manage events and announcements on the website, such as polls, CREA events, and online competitions.
  • Manage the blog on the website, write creative postings, and coordinate with the programme teams to regularly update blog posts.
  • Devise and implement strategies to reach out to more and more people, increase website traffic, and provide people with interesting and informative content.
  • Manage any other task related to the CREA website.
2. Social Media
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase outreach and traffic/users on CREA’s social media channels, including gaining more followers and friends for Twitter and Facebook
  • Manage CREA’s social networking accounts, and regularly update and respond to posts/tweets/etc.
  • Link fundraising efforts to CREA’s social media presence
  • Identify ways and means to build inter-linkages between CREA website and social media channels, and increase people’s active participation at all these forums.
  • Increase CREA’s presence at various social media platforms, such as Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, and wikis.
3. E-newsletter
  • Develop and manage the design and content of the quarterly e-newsletter, including writing some content, with the help of CREA programme staff.
  • Source relevant multimedia resources for each issue.
  • Disseminate the newsletter, on time, via Constant Contact, CREA e-groups, and other channels.
4. Other tasks
  • Create and disseminate announcements, as required, for special events, etc. through Constant Contact and other channels.
  • Create and manage audio-visual documentation of CREA’s work and impact.
  • Manage relationships with designers, tech team, etc.
  • Strategize with and help educate staff on incorporating relevant social media techniques into CREA’s online presence
  • Measure impact of social media on overall marketing efforts
  • Contributes to the development of CREA’s Communications Strategy

Key Characteristics:

An ideal candidate should have the following qualities:
  • Very knowledgeable in social media tools and techniques (3-5 years of work experience in these areas)
  • Strong marketing and communication skills, including a degree in communications or related field and ability to write creatively and fluidly.
  • Demonstrated interest in issues related to women’s rights, sexuality, reproductive health, social work, community development, gender studies, human rights, and/or related field
  • Must be active in social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Creative thinker, with ability to exercise judgment and be a proactive problem-solver
  • Fluency in English and Hindi languages (excellent oral and written skills are required)
  • Excellent interpersonal and team player skills
