The Women's Media Center promotes women and girls as subjects and decision-makers, conducts media monitoring, training and leadership development, and creates original content.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Women's Media Center's Program Director exists to lead and build the programs department. The Program Director oversees The Women's Media Center's women's media trainings and leadership development programs, in addition to directing all girls and youth programming. The Program Director is responsible for developing and implementing on and off-line strategy and planning for WMC Progressive Women's Voices, WMC Girls' State of the Union, and WMC Progressive Girls' Programs in addition to coalition strategy and relationship management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conceptualizes and orchestrates media and leadership trainings for women and girls on and off-line.
  • Mentors, coaches, and supports WMC Progressive Women's Voices, Progressive Girls' Voices alumnae.
  • Identifies and cultivates strategic partnerships and leads coalition management for SPARK Movement. Actively serves on SPARK Movement leadership committee.
  • Serves as a key member of the Women's Media Center leadership team.
  • Engages in digital and social media strategy support specifically as it relates to WMC Progressive Women's Voices, WMC Progressive Girls' Voices, and WMC Girls' State of the Union in partnership with the online team. Partners with the WMC She Source director to increase visibility of WMC Progressive Women's Voices experts who are featured on WMC She Source. Partners with the Media Manager on media related to WMC Progressive Womens Voices, Women's Media Center trainings and girls' programming.
  • Oversees girls' programming including WMC Girls' State of the Union and WMC Progressive Girls' Voices
  • Works with President and CEO on strategic planning, program budgets, program fundraising proposals, vendor contracts and relationship management, and administration related to trainings, girls programming, and partnerships.
  • Expands and strengthens Women's Media Center's programs' visibility, profile, and reputation through diversified and innovative outreach. Works closely with the media team and the President and CEO to identify and cultivate channels to engage current and new audiences to participate in our programs.
  • Frequently works with the President and CEO and the Board of Directors on visioning and structure to ensure that program implementation meets organizational goals.
  • Works with the President and CEO and the media team on drafting memoranda, web copy background papers, program text, and proposal/report related texts for the Programs Department.
    • Women's Media Center organization and leadership platforms.
    • Ongoing coalition support and relationship management for key strategic partnerships including SPARK Movement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • 7 to 10 years of dedicated progressive or women's rights advocacy and program administration engagement preferred. Experience with training, writing, and public speaking within non-profit and journalistic settings is ideal. Strategic and organizational skills.
  • The ideal candidate will possess strategic planning, research, project management, project evaluation, digital media and public speaking skills. Strong candidates for this position will need to have the ability to problem-solve, delegate, collaborate, and prioritize effectively with focus and attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Women's Studies, Political Science, or another relevant discipline. Strong understanding of news cycles (traditional and digital).
  • Knowledge of women's rights movement history and theories of change is important for this role.
  • Grassroots organizing, event planning, and new media expertise and training experience is key.
  • Extensive contacts in progressive, women's, and labor communities a plus.
SUPERVISION
The Programs Director reports to the President of the Women's Media Center and will work with her in the Women's Media Center's Washington, DC office.
COMPENSATION
Salary based on experience. Benefits include vacation and health insurance. The Women's Media Center offers a creative and inclusive work environment that welcomes diversity. The Women's Media Center cannot pay for relocation.
