DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the program director and clinical psychologist, interns work with clients receiving services through St. John's Shelter for Women and Children. St. John's is a multi-faceted 3-tiered program providing participants a 120-day shelter program, employment training and job placement, supportive housing and aftercare services to assist women in moving along the continuum from crisis to self-sustainability over a period of up to 18 months.

Clinic interns work though the psychology clinic at the Shelter to provide mental health services to shelter clients. Interns are afforded opportunities to practice and further develop their skills assisting clients in addressing effects of homelessness, trauma, behavioral and social difficulties, chronic mental illness and other mental health issues. Experience is afforded in areas of case management, individual therapy, psychoeducation and crisis intervention. Interns receive weekly formal individual and group supervision (2 hrs.) as well as ongoing interaction and contact with other members of the St. John's team.

Candidates must have completed their Masters in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology and be eligible for ACSW, MFTI, or PCCI, or post-doctoral registration prior to beginning internship.

Internship terms and schedules are variable. Interns are expected to commit to working a minimum of 20 hours per week for a minimum of 12 months. The next internship cohort will begin in June 2013. This is an unpaid internship.
