DESCRIPTION
My Sister's Place, Inc. (MSP) is a community-based non-profit organization that provides comprehensive and holistic direct services via intervention, prevention, educational programs and services to battered women and their children. The Residential Coordinator provides on-site residential management for MSP's 9,000 sq ft 45-bed shelter facilty and coverage to the MSP crisis hotline. This position is for the overnight (11 pm - 7 am) shift Sun/Mon - Thurs/Fri.
Under general direction, the Residential Coordinator will respond to client inquiries on the 24-hour crisis hotline and, using provided assessment tools, will determine courses of action to include, but not limited to, referrals, counseling options and safety planning. Through primarily administrative means, the Residential Coordinator will complete general intake forms, maintain record keeping of residential data and actively monitor the environment by performing front office and property administration duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Actively respond to phone calls on MSP's 24-hour crisis hotline.
  • Determine best referral opportunities based on client inquiries from a menu of options provided by MSP.
  • Conduct immediate yet narrow crisis intervention with caller when needed.
  • Assess risk to client and discuss plan for safety. Refer to appropriate crisis programming when necessary.
  • Complete the Contact Log on every caller by interviewing client and obtaining personal and demographic identifiers.
  • Using a pre-determined set of parameters, screen potential clients for acceptance into program by completing hotline assessment forms.
  • When necessary, consign client to a domestic violence consultation.
  • Accurately and completely document all shift activities and incidents in log book and other documentation binders.
  • Pro-actively communicate with case managers and other staff using forms, email, telephone and meetings.
SECONDARY DUTIES
  • Thoroughly clean and set up rooms for new residents.
  • Respond to general inquiries from residents.
  • Conduct regular and routine room inspections when assigned.
  • Consult with case manager prior to addressing inspection results with residents.
  • Address issues with clients through verbal and written warnings when violations occur.
  • Actively monitor close-captioned video system to ensure the general order and that safety procedures within the residential facility are being maintained. Contact appropriate authorities or managerial staff members when violations occur or when emergencies arise.
  • Attend and participate in organization meetings when requested by manager.
  • Display at all times a sensitivity to and awareness of the confidential nature of client information.
  • Duties may include other administrative tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • A demonstrated aptitude for working with clients who bring sensitive and confidential issues to the facility.
  • Ability to maintain client records and information in an accurate, timely and confidential manner.
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communications and interpersonal talents.
  • Strong ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to demonstrate at minimum an intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products to include Word and Excel.
  • Display excellent time management and multi-tasking capabilities.
  • Must be engaged and remain flexible in responding to often changing priorities, organizational needs and administrative deadlines.
  • Those candidates who possess a professional proficiency in both English and Spanish are strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND
  • Experience within a shelter or equivalent residential-care facility.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Women's Studies, Psychology, or other related field is required. Will consider candidates that have obtained the equivalent knowledge level through a combination of on-the-job training and applicable work experience beyond the Bachelor's Degree if degree obtained is not within the fields cited herein.
  • A general working knowledge of situations related to domestic violence and women's issues usually obtained through general exposure to a working environment where victims of domestic violence are clients.
  • Experience working with an ethnically, culturally and racially diverse work staff and client base is highly preferred.
ENVIRONMENT
All of the essential job functions will be performed under working conditions that are normal for an office environment.
