SUMMARY

Forward Together (formerly Asian Communities for Reproductive Justice) is looking for a passionate, dependable and committed campaign manager with experience leading grassroots policy campaigns, working with youth, and issues related to gender, sexuality and sex education. WHO WE ARE

Forward Together leads grassroots actions and trains community leaders to transform policy and culture in ways that support individuals, families and communities in reaching our full potential. The Forward Together Youth Program annually trains 60-80 young Asian women and men ages 14–18 from low-income, immigrant and refugee families to be leaders in their communities and organizers for reproductive justice. Currently the youth program is working on a long term campaign for sex education justice in the Oakland schools and community.

DESCRIPTION

The Sex Education Campaign Manager leads the campaign strategy and implementation of the Sex Ed the City Campaign. This includes setting the direction of the campaign work; building relationships with allied organizations, school administrators, teachers and students; engaging Forward Together youth in campaign strategy and activities; and connecting our sex education work with state and national campaigns and initiatives. To meet with partners and attend meetings and conferences, this position will be required to travel. This position will also coordinate the online communication and social media strategies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and implements strategic campaign plan that advances the goal of integrating comprehensive sexuality education in the Oakland Unified School District
  • Works closely with the Youth Organizer (who runs the youth programming workshops) to involve the youth participants in the organizing, visioning, planning and implementation of the campaign
  • Builds relationships with key partners and decision makers including allied youth organizations, Oakland school administrators, teachers, health centers and students
  • Attends and presents at state and national meetings and conferences on sex education policy and youth organizing
  • Leverages relationships with state and national partners to support the local organizing effort
  • Co-facilitates selected youth programming workshops and provides support to youth programming events
  • Updates and maintains coordinated communication with our youth database
  • Supports the coordination of the youth program communications and social media strategies on
    Facebook
  • Actively participates in all staff meetings, strategy sessions and Forward Stance practice (our mind-body approach to social change; learn more here)
  • Additional tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years’ experience leading and winning policy campaigns
  • Strong analysis of issues related to gender, sexuality and sex education
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with youth from diverse communities in a social
    justice context
  • Demonstrated track record building relationships and leading collaborative movement building
    strategies with multiple organizations and or groups
  • Excellent written and oral skills, including group facilitation and presentations with youth and
    adults
  • Flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities
  • Excellent skills in working with teams
  • Excellent phone and email communication skills
  • Highly organized and systematic project management skills and the ability to juggle competing
    priorities and deadlines
  • Strong skills in social media and related technology
  • Good people skills and an infectious, positive attitude when communicating about Forward
    Together’s work
  • Available to travel nationally 1–2 times every 3 months
