DESCRIPTION


The Theater Offensive, New England's leading LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) theater company, seeks an outgoing, detail-oriented organizer for a half-time contract as the North American Pride Youth Theater Alliance (PYTA) Youth Organizer. This position's core objective is to directly contact as many youth (ages 13-22) as possible within the PYTA network of 26 organizations and involve them in a survey or set of interviews that are meant to produce a clearer picture of what youth want from PYTA.
PYTA was formed to provide and promote successful models for LGBTQ youth theater programming, both nationally and internationally. Most importantly, PYTA is an opportunity to support the insight and resilience of LGBTQ youth and provide them with safe spaces for creative expression to tell their own stories.

REQUIREMENTS
Those interested in the position must be able to commit to the following:
  • Availability and schedule flexibility from September through December 2013.
  • Possible travel to local PYTA member organizations.
The Youth Organizer will be supervised by Trina Jackson, PYTA Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
Competitive applicants for this position will possess the following:
  • At least one year of recent experience as a youth peer organizer.
  • At least one year of experience with Queer Youth Theater
  • Excellent record of working across barriers of race, ethnicity and class
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Research and interviewing experience
  • Excellent writing skills for business and casual audiences
  • Experience working in an office environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Docs
  • Social media savvy
  • Work experience in community outreach, sales/promotion or advocacy.
  • Fluency in more than one language is a plus.
