Founded 25 years ago, the Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) is a leading not-for-profit organization assisting women, children, and families in the New York tri-state area to recognize and eliminate relationship violence and abuse. Our counseling, education, advocacy and support services help individuals empower themselves to build safe and healthy relationships based on mutual respect and dignity. Each year, over 2,500 individuals benefit from one or more services that we provide. All our services are culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and free. KAFSC has 44 (16 full-time, 28 part-time) staff, 20 board of directors, 6 advisory council members, 6 associate board members, and over 70 active volunteers.
KAFSC seeks a full-time Community Outreach & Education Coordinator that coordinates and organizes community outreach and education activities and implementing prevention strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Outreach & Education
  • Plan and coordinate community outreach activities 
  • Organize and coordinate Annual Silent March Against Domestic Violence & other October events
  • Work with Director of Shelter & Outreach to develop education programs targeting the underserved Asian/Korean community, men, and youth 
  • Leverage available community resources and create more outreach opportunities
  • Coordinate/Conduct workshops and presentations to college students and other community partners

Media Relations
  • Work with management team and other program staff to expand our media outreach efforts.
  • Produce Public Service Announcements, agency brochures, banners, and other promotional items. 
  • Write articles in the newspapers, coordinate monthly talk shows with radio producers, create press releases, and other women-oriented information websites etc. to have consistent and effective message(s) to the community and increase on-line presence working closely with our Development staff team.

Volunteer Coordination
  • Plan and implement Project Chinjung and its Community Advocate Program to train high-level volunteers/advocates to reach out to their own communities and to reach out to local businesses such as nail shops
  • Provide assistance to organize and coordinate a Domestic Violence Volunteer Training twice a year
  • Recruit and manage non-hotline volunteers including tutors, mentors and group volunteers 
  • Plan and implement continued education and trainings for on-ongoing volunteers 
  • Coordinate activities for volunteers to keep them engaged and help organize our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Party in December

System Advocacy and Direct Services
  • Update and produce a Korean-language domestic violence handbook for victims in the New York city area and keep 
  • Expand our resource/referral list and coordinate with other community and social service agencies to meet client needs 
  • Attend city or state-wide coalition meetings, advocacy rallies, marches and other types of events to represent KAFSC and its core agendas 
  • Serves as a backup for the 24-hr Hotline

Administration
  • Keep case records of activities journals and other documentation including program assessment, evaluation, intake forms, progress note, evaluation, termination and other documentation 
  • Prepare documents and reports for all appropriate, project-related activities 
  • Compile statistics and submitting appropriate reports in a timely fashion 
  • Participate in the agency-wide fundraising events 
  • Attend and proactively participate in bi-weekly staff meetings and supervision check-ins 
  • Assist Program Director/Executive Director as guided

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA or BS in Social Work, Sociology, Women's Studies, Public Policy or related field 
  • MA or MSW preferred 
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills in Korean and English 
  • Community organizing skills and experiences 
  • Strong commitment to the Asian American Community, immigrant community and KAFSC's mission 
  • Experience working with domestic violence victims or family conflicts preferred 
  • Program development and event coordination experience, a plus
