ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society.
As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work together across programs (addressing homelessness, affordable housing, and immigrant rights) to meet the diverse needs of our communities and collectively address the root causes of suffering and injustice.
PROGRAM & POSITION SUMMARY
The Mission SRO Collaborative works to improve living conditions and empower tenants in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels in the Mission District of San Francisco. Program components include outreach, tenant stabilization services, and community programs—including educational and leadership development workshops on topics such as fire prevention, disaster preparedness, tenant rights, and housing justice issues.
We are also part of the SRO Families United Collaborative (SROFU), a citywide collaboration of community-based organizations in Chinatown, South of Market, the Tenderloin, and the Mission to serve families with children who live in hotels. The SROFU works to link families to needed services, as well as advocating and organizing with them for more appropriate housing options.
The SRO Families Neighborhood Coordinator will take a lead role in planning and overseeing our work with families in SROs in the Mission.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee all aspects of the SROFU work in the Mission to ensure implementation of program activities
  • Supervise 2 peer outreach staff members (promotoras)
  • Maintain communication and coordination between SROFU and MSROC to promote collaboration between programming for individuals and families in Mission based SROs
  • Coordination of regular community events and activities, working closely with other SROFU member organizations toward our common goals of organizing families living in hotels.
  • Represent Dolores Street Community Services/ MSROC in program meetings of the SROFU Collaborative
  • Create and facilitate educational workshops on issues related to housing, tenant rights, health, employment and other relevant issues for families
  • Engage in community organizing efforts affecting Families in SROs in the Mission and Citywide
  • Holding meetings with tenants to identify and prioritize issues
  • Serving as a resource and referral source for SRO tenants, SRO managers/owners, and other agencies on issues related to accessing services and stabilizing SRO hotels
  • Serve as liaison with city agencies on issues relating to SRO Families in the Mission
  • Participating in regular meetings with representatives from Collaborative agencies.
  • Maintaining familiarity and working relationships with City agencies, community and neighborhood groups, and social service organizations that work with SRO tenants.
  • Generating reports, collecting data, and assisting with program administration.
  • Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bilingual Spanish/English verbal and written fluency
  • Knowledge of issues facing homeless and low-income families in San Francisco
  • Strong organizational & communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Staff supervision experience
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Commitment to racial and economic justice issues
Compensation: $19/hr ($37,050 FTE annually)
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, generally Mon-Fri.10 a.m.-6 p.m., with some evening and weekend hours as needed to implement program activities
