The Associate Director of Social Enterprise and Business Strategy will be a seasoned leader with previous management experience in a sizeable mission focused not-for-profit or for-profit ideally a health focused enterprise. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with social initiatives that promote global health and wellbeing via strategic and analytical avenues that utilize business acumen in order to realize a social and financial impact. The Associate Director will work directly with committed local NGO partners to adapt current business models to context specific needs and identify distinctive opportunities to launch social enterprises that support service growth and organizational sustainability. In addition, the Associate Director will work to mobilize capital resources to support these efforts.

BACKGROUND
Given the continued decline in international funding sources in the Latin America and Caribbean region, it is becoming increasingly important that local NGOs have the capacity to develop local income sources and plan to become less dependent on grant funding. In order to achieve financial independence, it is vital that these NGOs develop and strengthen social enterprise business models and, when relevant, realign and strengthen their organizational structure in order to operate in a more efficient and profitable manner, subsequently and simultaneously enabling service growth and subsidization of services which promote a social mission of serving poor and marginalized populations.
The local NGOs themselves have recognized the importance of making a shift toward greater self-sustainability and institutional stability, and are requesting support to establish sound business plans and develop lines of business to generate income and allow for the cross-subsidization of services, and support the strengthening of their internal structures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Associate Director of Social Enterprise and Business Strategy reports to the Director of Institutional Development and manages the Health Financing Specialist, based in Mexico City. The Associate Director of Social Enterprise and Business Strategy will carry out the following responsibilities:
Social Enterprise Model Development (70%)
The Associate Director will be responsible for building the capacity of the Regional Office and Member Associations in the development and implementation of social enterprise business models that drive the expansion of sexual and reproductive health services in Latin America and the Caribbean while promoting financial sustainability of the local NGOs. This focus will include the following responsibilities:
- Develop an overall social enterprise strategy and implementation plan, identifying innovative but viable business models that enable local NGOs to roll out new service delivery models and expand existing service offering.
- Work with the Health Financing Specialist to support implementation of business models on a local level with the NGOs; this effort will not only focus on supporting models that contribute to the achievement of programmatic growth objectives but will also promote a regional alignment with an IPPF Global initiative focused on the implementation of social enterprise models.
- Cultivate and foster partnerships with regionally focused technical assistance providers with expertise in social enterprise business models to offer support with project implementation when relevant.
- Assist in mobilizing resources to support these efforts.
Networking, Global Partnership Engagement and Communication (30%)
- Support local NGOs to establish, expand and effectively manage public-private sector partnerships and serve as the IPPF/WHR focal point on Social Enterprise and Public-Private partnerships.
- Collaborate effectively and proactively with other programmatic areas, including Service Growth and Quality, Youth, Abortion, Advocacy to maximize the impact of current programmatic interventions.
- Stay abreast of new developments in the social enterprise global health sphere and continually network to support innovation within IPPFs social enterprise work.
- Participate on behalf of the Regional Office in external meetings, conferences and workshops as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An MBA or a Master’s degree in a relevant field, including Social Enterprise, International Development, Health Economics, or Health Planning and Financing;
- At least 10 - 15 years of experience working in social enterprise management, public health, health financing, business strategy or related area. Experience should include experience with social enterprise strategies on an international scale;
- Proven ability to work with and analyze both service level and financial data in strategy development and performance evaluation;
- Strong communications skills (speaking, writing, editing, and listening); with attention to detail and broad strategy and experience communicating to different audiences;
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently, problem solve effectively and work on multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability and experience in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with people, internally and externally, from a wide-variety of types of organizations, cultural backgrounds, and functional expertise;
- Advanced oral and written skills In Spanish and English required, Portuguese a plus.
- Experience working In Latin America and the Caribbean a plus.
LOCATION: This position is based in Mexico City with some travel required within the Region, about 20% of time.
SALARY: $100,000 and excellent benefits package
