Position Summary
The Associate Curator will oversee and drive critical components of the Skoll World Forum (Forum) in Oxford each year, as well as other initiatives as it accelerates the work for social entrepreneurs and innovators working in over 130 countries.
Candidates will have a deep understanding of complex global issues, experience in identifying the most relevant topics emerging around the world and identify the most important people to drive those conversations at the Forum. He/she will bring with them a network of aligned subject matter experts and executive level contacts.
Candidates will also have direct experience in overseeing complex logistical planning, project management, communicating with the highest levels of VIP constituents and securing new partners and sponsors. This individual will be highly organized with superior communication and relationship-building skills, be thoughtful, creative and humble and continually optimize what impact means for delegates attending the Oxford event, and beyond.
Primary Responsibilities
• Leverage and build upon the Skoll Foundation’s global network to architect critical connections and to convene key innovators from corporate, government and the social sectors
• Continually monitor global progress on relevant issue areas, new and emerging topics, and top thinkers in those arenas for consideration at the Forum
• Oversee a year-round (multi-year) Curator program and the systems and process to track session and speaker development
• Secure and implement new sponsor opportunities (via corporations, aligned foundations and/or government agencies)
• Develop and implement speaker engagement process from start to finish including logistical coordination of 160+ speakers and VIPs in attendance at Oxford (Visas, consistent communications, hotel blocks, printed program, etc.)
• Help identify and negotiate entertainment options that align with Skoll values and objectives
• Represent the Foundation and Skoll World Forum team with external constituencies at meetings/conferences
• Partner with the Director of Communications to coordinate with speakers for media relations and video purposes
• Support the Director and Curator on strategic initiatives supporting brand, business model development and long range planning
• Explore and create innovative opportunities for efficiencies, impact and overall improvements each year
• Serve as integrated team member with other Skoll Foundation team on Foundation projects throughout the year
Qualifications and Abilities
• Demonstrated passion for social change and making a difference (be it in your organization, in your community or on a global level)
• Dynamic, influential and driven individual with a track record for exceeding expectations and delivering results
• Senior project management expertise with experience managing multiple projects on time and on budget
• Ability to translate from strategic imperatives to logistical realities
• Superior interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships with important Skoll constituents
• Desire and proven ability to work in an intense, results-oriented environment
• Relentless attention to detail and sound judgment
• A strongly developed sense of integrity, humility and discretion
• Available for international travel and ability to work flexibly
• Cross-functional or team experience in matrix organizations preferred
• Nonprofit experience and international experience preferred
Education and Experience
• BA required; advanced degree preferred
• At least seven years’ experience in planning and producing event programs, registration systems and top-level VIP components
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills – with an emphasis on speed and efficiency
• Experience sourcing, pitching and acquiring highly-aligned sponsors and partners
• Experience working collaboratively with partners on major projects to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
• Experience managing budgets and reporting results
