ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Global Fund for Women is a grantmaker and a global advocate for women’s human rights. We help to advance the movement for women’s human rights by directing resources to and raising the voices of women worldwide. We invest in local, courageous women and women-led organizations, and create digital advocacy campaigns on critical global issues for women and girls.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Campaigner/ Senior Campaigner co-develops, implements and promotes campaigns on critical issues of women’s human rights, working to build a global audience of activists, advocates and donors, and to elevate popular awareness of critical global issues for women. S/he also leads Global Fund for Women’s rapid response communications efforts, including sourcing and writing stories on breaking news issues for women’s rights in concert with our global network of grantee partners and advisors. S/he works across social media, media and online advocacy platforms – and in collaboration with Global Fund for Women’s many partners – to make sure relevant content and actions are promoted aggressively and successfully.
The position will be appointed at either the Campaigner or Senior Campaigner level depending on the skills and seniority of the candidate.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Campaigns
  • Develops concepts and content for both proactive and rapid response campaigns
  • Creates partnerships with aligned organizations and individuals to build campaign success
  • Develops and implements media and online promotion strategies for campaigns
  • Develops and writes email content
  • Creates, launches and promotes petitions and other online activism activities
Rapid Response
  • Crafts rapid responses on emerging and breaking global news about women’s rights, working in concert with Global Fund advisors, grantees and staff around the world. Generates media commentary, op eds, emails, advocacy actions and statements as needed and on a daily/ weekly basis.
  • Pitches rapid response commentary and interviews by Global Fund staff, advisors and grantees to the media on a fast turnaround to capitalize on breaking news moments
  • Seeks to create news moments and interest around urgent issues of women’s human rights emerging from the Global Fund for Women network that may not have achieved mainstream attention
  • Prepares Global Fund spokespeople for media interviews and engagements
  • Works with colleagues to conceptualize, write and launch online advocacy and funding campaigns relating to rapid response responsibilities with quantifiable action and revenue goals
  • Develops online petitions to align with rapid response priorities
  • Produces background briefing and Q&A documents for GFW staff, Board and stakeholders
Media Relations
  • In collaboration with the Communications Manager, acts as a media liaison for Global Fund for Women, both for proactive media outreach and managing reactive media enquiries
  • Builds Global Fund for Women’s media profile in online and offline media, with a focus on accessing media outlets that will reach and engage new and mainstream audiences
  • Develops media partnerships with critical media outlets and ensures placement of high quality copy and content
  • Writes and places articles, quotes, op eds and blog posts for Global Fund and senior Global Fund spokespeople
Other
  • Advises on/ oversees social media strategy in concert with campaigns and media relations
  • Writes copy for reports, documents, email newsletters, publications and proposals as needed
  • Engages in cross functional teams (e.g. Online fundraising team, Rapid Response team) as required
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal Relationships
This position reports directly to the VP of Advocacy and Innovation. Significant – strong working relationships and collaboration with regional program staff, development team, advocacy team colleagues.
External Relationships
Partner organizations, media, grantee partners and women’s funds, Global Fund for Women advisors, consultants and vendors
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Required
  • Excellent communications skills – both written and spoken
  • Fluency in social media and in email strategy, and their use in securing campaign goals
  • High affinity for and interest in news, especially breaking international news
  • Ability to brief journalists and undertake media interviews
  • Ability and willingness to respond to media enquires outside of working hours when necessary
  • Positive demeanor and ability to rapidly build positive relationships and trust with a wide range of people of multiple nationalities and cultures
  • Ability to influence colleagues in cross functional team settings
  • Strong negotiation and diplomacy skills
  • Passion for and understanding of social change, human rights and/ or gender equality issues on a global scale
Preferred
  • Fluency on one of the Global Fund’s non-English operating languages –  Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish
  • Design and HTML skills highly desirable
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BA/BS Degree
  • At least 5 years of campaigning, media relations and communications experience in progressively senior roles and with a demonstrated track record of achievement
  • Demonstrated experience of pitching and securing significant media coverage, ideally for campaigns or social causes
  • Demonstrated experience of conceptualizing, writing and implementing online awareness raising, advocacy or fundraising campaigns that achieved significant, quantifiable goals
  • Significant experience (evidence by portfolio) of writing for multiple types of media, especially with a social change/ campaigning orientation
  • Evidence of using online media, social media and communications to influence public opinion, shift awareness and propel activism
  • Experience of creating issues-led campaigns, including experience managing creative communications, media and advocacy projects, with an emphasis on online and multi-media projects
  • Experience in developing website content and in using CMS
  • Experience in monitoring and measuring social media, media and communications campaigns
  • Experience in high impact, low cost online promotion and advertising and in utilizing tools such as Google Adword grants
  • Experience working with senior volunteers and Board members desirable
START DATE AND COMPENSATION
The projected start date for this position will be April 2015. The Campaigner/ Senior Campaigner is a full time, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
