Job Description

Gender and Youth Specialist
Banyan Global is seeking a full-time mid-level Gender and Youth Specialist to be based in our Washington, DC office. The Gender and Youth Specialist will advise on gender and youth research approaches and methodologies, ensure that research instruments are designed to adequately collect gender and youth information and that research teams collect information without gender-biases. Ideal candidates have 4-6 years of experience in both gender/youth integration and livelihoods or economic growth programing. Duties and responsibilities for upcoming position include:
  • Provides technical leadership on gender and youth research, approaches and methodologies, including program, activity and evaluation design.
  • Ensure that gender and youth is mainstreamed across programs, including training materials, monitoring, operations, policies and procedures and design activities that target women and girls within the scope of the project;
  • Responsible for providing input for the development of relevant gender and youth activities, including but not limited to, developing regional and country specific indices, technical advisory and training guides, and approaches to integrate gender into their portfolios
  • Provides gender and youth capacity building support to local and national governments and local organizations
  • Facilitate gender and youth trainings with program staff and program stakeholders;
  • Review and provide input to project work plans, with attention to gender and youth dimensions of technical activities and operations, and discuss gender and youth issues and priorities with project senior management and other technical specialists;
  • Liaise with technical component leaders to ensure that gender and youth considerations are assessed and accounted for;
  • Write project reports and prepare internal documentation as required;
  • Maintain active relationships with local gender and youth specialists and others in related organizations and programs;
Requirements:
  • Master’s Degree in international development, gender studies, development economics, international affairs, or some related field, with a focus on gender and/or youth;
  • Must have demonstrated at least five years’ experience working in gender integration, gender equity or youth integration and/or related topics.
  • At least three years’ experience working in gender and/or youth research.
  • Experience effectively integrating gender and youth considerations into programming that is not explicitly focused on gender or youth;
  • Strong negotiations and communications skills and effective report-writing skills.
  • Prior experience working on USAID programs preferred.
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel to difficult environments to complete program assignments.
  • Experience working with complex multi-disciplinary teams;
